Throughout the semester we have encountered a number of literary texts that respond to various histories of racial injustice in America. From the experience of Filipino Americans upon arrive in the US to the threats of violence against African Americans, both young and old, during Jim Crow and after, the authors we’ve read have illuminated how African American and Asian American experiences of oppression share many commonalities. In your final reading journal, please compare and contrast two literary texts we’ve read this term and the histories they represent: specifically draw connections between an Asian American and African American author. To make these comparative connections, and highlight their differences and similarities, analyze at least one passage from each text to help provide evidence for how they overlap or diverge.
